An Introduction

Family and Friends, thank you for taking the time to track my nonsense! Soon I leave for a 5 1/2 month trip to London, Nepal, and India... then back to Nepal... then back to India... then back to London... (holy jetlag, Batman). I don't like mass emails, but maybe I'll send a reminder every now and then if nobody minds. That way those of you who want to follow along are welcome, but I won't crowd the inboxes of less-interested acquaintances.

So, this is how it started:
I've been living in Durango, Colorado for the past two years, and those of you who know me well know that's the longest I've stayed anywhere in a LONG time. I started thinking about when and where and how I should plot my escape early this winter. Meanwhile, back in Virginia, my friend, Sulava, got engaged to Atul. They're both Nepali, and Sulava and I went to college together in Virginia. She used to make me tea when I was studying in our dorm freshman year. Once she dressed me up in gorgeous Nepali clothing for the Taste of Asia Fashion Show. (Yes, I stood out.)

When the opportunity to attend her wedding arrose, having already thought about taking a trip, I decided the stars and planets were aligning, and the universe was leading me to the Himalayas. (Nice work, Universe.) It came down to this age old question: Why not? I didn't have a good reason. So, after several serendipitous circumstances steered my soul on a single slant, I finally realized:

I'M GOING TO NEPAL.
